Adoption Momentum – OpenAthens Latest to Achieve OpenID Certification

I’m pleased to report that the OpenID Certification Program continues to be a driver of OpenID Connect global adoption.

We end 2017 with over 200 certifications of 70 implementations. Additional requests arrive on a weekly basis. RP certification requests have followed suit since we put the RP test into production in July 2017.

OpenID Foundation member, OpenAthens, is the latest to achieve OpenID certification. OpenAthens is part of Eduserv, a not-for-profit IT services company based in Bath, UK.

Jon Bentley, Commercial Manager at OpenAthens, commented in a recent blog, “Our name itself, OpenAthens, is built on the principles of open, common standards and interoperability. Our membership in the OpenID Foundation reflects our commitment to widening engagement with federated access wherever possible. Momentum is building and it is an exciting time to receive the certification.”

As with all OpenID certifications, OpenAthens certification is registered at OIXnet, an online registry of trust frameworks and identity systems launched in April 2015 in concert with the OpenID Certification Program and is operated by the Open Identity Exchange.

The OpenID Foundation was the first to leverage the OIXnet registry to provide transparency into certified OpenID Connect deployments while enabling the discovery of the legal assurance of technical conformance that ensures interoperability and accelerates adoption of this important global standard.

A standard is only as good as its adoption and OpenAthens Cloud joins a growing list of certified OpenID Connect implementations delivering secure authentication solutions while assuring trust in the marketplace. Congratulations to the OpenAthens team and all other organizations and individuals who have achieved OpenID certification.
